How To Draw a Baby Lamb
In this super arty guide from Quickdraw you will learn how to draw a cartoon baby lamb easily. Here's a video tutorial with captions and a voiceover, plus a series of illustrations from the video that explain which part of the lamb to draw and why. It's simple! You'll have mastered drawing a lamb in no time. Don't forget to check out the Quickdraw YouTube page for more drawing ideas.
Art materials needed:
A plain sketchpad to draw on, a sharp pencil to draw with, an eraser to rub out messy lines, a black marker pen to go over pencil lines, and a bunch of colouring pencils or felt tip pens to add a splash of colour!
Step 1: Drawing with pencil
-
In this section of the drawing guide we are using a standard graphite pencil to make the outline of the baby lamb.
On the left you will see a front view of a lamb but we are recreating one from scratch on the right of the page, and this lamb will be facing side on and jumping in the air for joy... why? Because it's springtime and the flowers are blossoming, the chicks are hatching, and our little woolen friend is sprining into action.
So start your cartoon lamb illustration by drawing a circle for its head.
-
Some more detail on our cute little lamb's face? Sure! We need a button nose in the centre of its head; a smiley mouth just below; and a pair of ears flopping down the side of its face.
-
Pair text with an image to focus on your chosen product, collection, or blog post. Add details on availability, style, or even provide a review.
-
It's spring time and our cartoon lamb needs to jump into action and smell the flowers blossoming. So how about a pair of bouncy front legs, and strong back legs. The front two will bend like arms, whilst the back stay firm like pork chops.
Step 2: Drawing with marker pen
-
Here we go. A splendid, shiny outline with our black marker pen, making our lamb artwork stand out from the page.
Now look closely at the outline and ask yourself what's different. Instead of making a smooth line we have ourselves a sort of bubble-shape, and this is to give off the impression that the lamb's body is thick and wooley. A neat little trick for all you budding artists out there!
Step 3: Colouring in
-
This is the best part isn't it. And because baby lamb's are almost all white in colour, it's also the easiest part of our artwork too.
The face of the lamb should be a rosy pink; it's hoofs a strong black; and then if you are particularlly neart and a bit of a perfectionist then draw an inside line around the body in yellow so it looks like a shadow on the wool.
Guess what... you're all done. Congratulations on drawing a baby lamb with pen and pencil!
